The Cabin
The Buffalo Cabin is a modern blend of Southwest and Scandinavian style with wood and tile throughout. It consists of two bedrooms with queen beds, and a superior quality sofa bed (full) located in the Great Room. The cabin has both mini-split heat/AC climate controls and gas heating for maximum performance and efficiency. The cabin offers Starlink Internet, a chef's kitchen and beautiful bathroom for your comfort. This is fully off grid, with solar, septic and a well, being intentionally designed. The cabin's water is sourced from our private well and filtered with a two level filtration system. We have exceptional flow rate of water, so take as long and as hot of showers as you please.
The cabin sits on 5.5 acres within an undisturbed 40 million year old cactus covered volcanic area that has been deemed an ancient Vision Quest site by a renowned state archeologist. Paleolithic and modern tribes utilized the area for hunting, stone sourcing and spiritually Shamanic purposes. The cabin sits along Highway 9, a primitive road used by native peoples for tens of thousands of years. This is an area explored by the Spanish in the 1700's, in which the local towns Canon City, Salida and Buena Vista have reflective names.
Buffalo Cabin is nestled within an expanding herd of American Bison, Buffalo. Alongside Pronghorn Antelope, Deer, and Elk, these majestic buffalo roam freely, passing by at their own pace. Perched on a south-facing hill at 9,000 feet, the cabin enjoys a warm microclimate, bathed in sunlight and open sky.
Mornings here bring a stoic calm and peacefulness. The ground is carpeted with diverse low-lying cactus species and mountain sage, accented by Indian Paintbrush and other native flowers and grasses. From the deck, one can take in 25-mile panoramic views of rolling hills stretching toward Pikes Peak to the east. Dawn and sunrise unfold dramatically over Sun Mountain—known as “Tava,” or The Mountain of the Sun, by the native Ute Tribe who historically inhabited this land. To the south, Eleven Mile Mountain stands forested against the backdrop of Pike National Forest. This landscape surrounding the cabin remains undisturbed for 40 million years, offering endless opportunities to explore public lands permanently preserved—a terrain that time has never forgotten.
The cabin sits between two Dark Sky areas—Browns Canyon and Florissant Fossil Beds—giving stargazers a rare chance to see the night sky clearly, without light pollution. Enjoy meteor showers, the Milky Way, and stars as nature meant. This peaceful spot is ideal for deep sky watching and quiet moments under the stars.
